Interims Board

In the course of the establishing conference, six persons from various NGOs volunteered to build an Interims Board of the European Network of Deradicalisation and agreed to promote the network further and to formulate a binding mission statement as well as to plan the next steps.

Members of the Interims Board:


Wilma Aarts (SIPI, NL):
Wilma Aarts is the project manager of a preventative approach - called Diamond - for youngsters with a dual cultural identity at the Foundation for Intercultural Participation and Integration (SIPI) in Amsterdam. SIPI developed Diamond to prevent problems among youngsters such as school drop out, radicalisation, criminality etc.  Wilma has a special interest in nonviolent communication.

Silke Baer (Cultures Interactive, DE):
Silke Baer’s background is in social work, journalism and North American studies (Dipl. Social Pedagogy/ M.A). She is a certified mediation trainer and has co-founded Cultures Interactive (CI, e.V./NGO), in which she currently serves as CEO and pedagogical director. Several “Federal Model Projects” since 2005 regarded the development and probing of innovative methods for preventing right-wing-extremism and racism (mostly in Eastern German regions) and religious fundamentalism, and militant Jihadism (mostly in inner-city districts).

Pat Conway (NIACRO, UK):
Pat Conway is Director of Services for NIACRO which is an NGO in Northern Ireland working in the criminal justice system on a diversion/resettlement/reintegration/desistance agenda. Pat was director of the Challenge Hate Crime (CHC) project which seeks to develop practice with perpetrators of hate crime as well as addressing political, societal and criminal justice matters that have an impact on how this type of crime is dealt with.

Judy Korn (Violence Prevention Network, D):
Judy Korn is Chief Executive Director and founding member of Violence Prevention Network, an NGO that works both in prevention and first-line deradicalisation with people that are susceptible to extremism or fundamentalism. Judy has been actively engaged against violent right wing extremism in Berlin since the age of fourteen and has been Ashoka Fellow in 2007.

Yousiff Meah (The RecoRa Institute, UK):
Yousiff Meah is the Chief Executive Director and a founding member of The RecoRa Institute. Yousiff has been actively involved in violence reduction research and practice for many years. He was the policy lead on reducing gang violence for Birmingham City Council in the U.K. prior to designing the city's pathfinder programme for Preventing Violent Extremism.

Julia Reinelt (Violence Prevention Network, D):
Julia Reinelt is a political scientist, enthusiastic about europeanisation of civic society stakeholders and currently working within a project about deradicalising narratives at Violence Prevention Network.

Petri Salakka (HelsinkiMissio, FIN):
Petri Salakka works as head of team in Aggredi, which is a violence prevention programme that he created with his partners at HelsinkiMissio. His expertise lies in the field of violence; especially outdoor violence offenders, community violence and violence linked to organized crime. His professional background are social services and supervision.
